Lagos State Gov. Salutes Courage of Police in Rescuing Abducted School Girls, as Three Suspects Arrested



The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has described the action of State Police Command in rescuing the three seminary school girls Kidnapped in the state last Monday as couragious and worthy of commendation.

The three female students of Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary (BMJS), Agunfoye-Lugbusi, Ikorodu, were abducted last Monday in their hostels and got rescued early hours of Sunday.
The state’s Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, in a tweet on Sunday, via his Twitter handle, @stevoree said: “The three abducted school girls in Ikorodu have been rescued by the Police. Lagos is working. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode salutes the courage of the Police.”
The three female students of the Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary (BMJS), who spent six days in the hands of their abductors, were said to be in good health and in high spirit.
Lagos State Police Commissipner, Fatai Owoseni, said no ransom was paid for their release.
It was learnt that the kidnappers came with seven canoes at back of school and took the girls to Adama creeks, very close to the school.
A member of the gang who took part in the abduction was said to have been arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT, lead by CSP Abba Kyari, when he left the gang’s camp in the creek, Arepo, Ogun State, off Ikorodu.
The key suspect, Emmanuel Arikiti was arrested by the IGP’s Special Intelligence Response, when he came out to buy food stuffs.
Two other suspects who aided the gang in registering the Sim Card they used to contact the victims parents were nabbed by the Lagos State Police Command.
Severe pressure was mounted on the abductors with some of their parents arrested. A man whose two sons were among the gang had to paddle his canoe into the creeks to tell other members that Emmanuel has been nabbed and the police was about to launch an offensive through air and water on them.
Kidnappers sensing that they were already surrounded took the girls close to Igbo-Okuta bridge were they abandoned them and fled.
Operation is still ongoing to nab eleven more members of the gang.
Sources disclosed that the school girls are currently with the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, and were said to be rescued by a combine team of the IRT operatives and their counterpart at the Lagos State Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja.
