Beware Lil Kesh! See 10 Highly Talented Music Stars Whose Careers Fell After Leaving Their First Label
Ever since the announcement of the youngster, who just released his album Y.A.G.I, was made that he is leaving the record label which brought him to limelight, there have been mixed feelings on Social media with tons of fans asking him not to leave the label.
While these fans might not want him to leave because it’s apparent that he’s a core artiste in YBNL music group, what the star doesn’t or mightn’t know is that leaving the record label will do him no good.
In recent years, we’ve had Nigerian artistes in the same shoes as Lil Kesh and truthfully, not up to 90% made it on their own when they decided to leave their respective labels that brought out the shine in them.
Meanwhile YBNL wishes to remind Lil Kesh of these artistes, letting him know how their careers stagnated when they left their labels.
1. Wande Coal
His story has definitely gotta be the most popular cause he left two huge record labels in the space of four years!
Wande Coal’s story is akin to Lil Kesh’s cause back then, the singer decided not to renew affairs with Mo’Hits/Mavin Records after his time elapsed.
After he had issues with Don Jazzy’s MAVIN records, the coal singer went on to create his own label called Black Diamond Entertainment.
What can we say of his career since then? It has stagnated in spite of the singer working overtime to return himself to the top of Nigerian music food chain.
Who knows? Probably if he stayed with MAVIN, he too would have gotten a GLO endorsement deal like most of them did but… Oh well.
2. Jesse Jagz
This very talented rapper had no choice than to return to Chocolate City Music after discovering that life is certainly not a bed roses!
When we were all in love with the choc boiz, Jesse famously ditched Chocolate City to make his own record label, Jagz Nation.
While the quality of Jesse Jagz music didn’t drop while solo cause he made few hits on his own, he couldn’t monetize as much. The heads that were helping him make it weren’t behind him anymore.
After “Reply Brother” from M.I and Ice Prince, he eventually returned but unfortunately, his brothers Ice Prince and M.I have left him behind as they’ve topped their games leaving Jesse like an upcoming artiste.
3. Burna Boy.
One thing really sad and painful in Burna Boy’s music career is the fact that he can’t travel overseas because of the ban imposed on him when he was still a teenager.
In spite of this, Aristokrat Records made the singer a huge success. And rather than returning the favour, the Kush Don Gorgon left the label out in the cold.
By doing carrying out this act, the singer also left behind the heartbeat behind his work, LeriQ.
The singer has been solo ever since and been making waves though but he sure hasn’t reached the height he was destined to reach.
4. Brymo
This very talented singer is set to release his third album after leaving Choc City, the fifth of his career but has he achieved stupendously since that time?
We’re still out on whether Brymo can achieve some level of mainstream success.
Let’s just look out for Brymo’s fifth studio album, Klitoris.
5. May D
From making waves with P-Square to not even being able to make an admirable headline but rather news tailing of the singer being a domestic violator.
May D cut ties with Square Records and also with Jude Okoye as his manager.
May D is now more known for his low budget videos than his hit records.
6. D’Banj
Though he may have won MTV’s Evolution award… We can’t say he’s really evolved to that heights he’s meant to have evolved to few years as he has been on a journey for self discovery since he split with Don Jazzy.
D’Banj‘s struggles to retain his status has been well documented on blogs worldwide.
Gracefully, D’Banj is headlining show these days after struggling for almost half a decade.
7. Jaywon.
Jaywon, another highly talented music whose only music I know is “Odun yi”, left Kennis Music and we have barely heard anything from him ever since, except for one nice music video he did that I like sha.
Don’t be mistaken, the singer has already released an album this year and his album cover is one the worst I’ve seen in recent time.
If only he released his project under Kennis or a well funded label, his album just might have done way better.
8. Mo’Cheddah.
First female on our list. One thing we’d always admire Mo’Cheddah for is her fashion statements but it’s obvious it has taken over he music.
Taking a long hiatus from music after quitting Knighthouse, she returned under her own label Cheddah Music.
While her music has been okay, her career is not what it was back then when she won a MAMA Award.
9. Vector.
The one and only Nigerian King Kong, left YSG presuming that life would be better for him when he leaves. Maybe life probably made him smile at least with a little chuckle.
But do you remember Vector releasing any album since he left YSG? Nah, I don’t think so.
With the likes of these new rappers trying to carve a niche for themselves in the industry it is do or die now for Vector.
10. Sauce Kid (Sinzu)
Sauce Kid back then, left Storm Records to do him after he released an impressive album, African American.
The rapper then relocated back to the States to discover his own label SMG, Sinzu Music Group. Fast forward to now, Sinzu’s music has changed, he does trap music now and Nigerian audience can’t even relate to his sounds.
Sauce Kid released a project last year, none of the singles on the EP charted.
What Do you Think About This Suggestions and Facts?
