Port Harcourt will stand still on Friday evening as former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, stages a testimonial match in celebration of his retirement and centenary appearance for the national team.
The Joseph Yobo Foundation has organised the event in conjunction with the Rivers State Government to honour the player, who had a record 101 caps for Nigeria.
Coordinator of the event, Waidi Akanni, said on Thursday, “About 10 players from various parts of the world are already in town. Tressor Lua Lua, the Ayew Brothers (Dede and Jordan) and Sulley Muntari are some of the players already in town.
“David Moyes and John Terry will arrive in Abuja tomorrow (Friday) before going to Port Harcourt. We are set for this big event.”
Meanwhile, Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba, Thierry Henry and Wayne Rooney are some of the stars being expected to arrive early on Friday for the testimonial match.
Mikel Obi, Ahmed Musa, Vincent Enyeama, Samson Siasia, Nwankwo Kanu and Emmanuel Emenike are some of the Nigerian players expected to feature in the match.
Rivers State Governor, Nyson Wike, is expected to kick off the encounter with a penalty match against Enyeama at the Adokiye Amesimaka Stadium.
Yobo featured at three World Cups and six AFCON tournaments, leading Nigeria to victory in his last outing in South Africa.
Some of the corporate bodies who have indicated their support for the Joseph Yobo Centenary Game are Sifax Group, NICON Insurance and Beko Electronics Ltd.
