Blackberry To Launch Two New Android Phones

Blackberry has decided to launch two mid-range Android handsets by the end of the year as announced by chief executive John Chen.

Blackberry To Launch Two New Android Phones

First phone will have a physical keyboard and other phone will have full-touch screen. The Canadian phone manufacturer has pinned all of its hopes on Android to get out of distress. The latest quarterly result of the company has not been good and they were way off the expectations of analysts leading to tumbling of company’s shares in the stock exchanges.

The reason of bad performance is mainly due to the fact that its flagship Android phone Priv has failed to create any buzz in the market.

Considering its Android plans, Blackberry seems to have no plan to use its own BB10 based phones as its sales has drastically fallen by $200m in the last quarterly result. Such is the fall in the reputation of the phone that last month, both Facebook and its Whatsapp announced to stop their support for Blackberry apps.

Chen, CEO Blackberry had previously said that his plan was to sell 3 million device sales at an average price of $300 to breakeven the operational cost. Considering the poor response, it seems highly unlikely that company will be able to meet its sales target.

One of the main reasons behind the lackluster performance of Priv is its higher price and by launching two phones in the mid segment it wants to rectify these mistakes. But the mid -range Android phone segment is highly competitive and it will certainly lack many differentiating features.

BlackBerry’s big focus has been on software recently which has shown strong results. In September, Chen told CNBC that he would need one year to make the device unit profitable, and if not, consider ditching it.
