The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, and the President, Nigerian Stock Exchange, Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, have offered young Nigerian graduates useful tips that could lead them to attain great heights in life.
They identified virtues such as perseverance, hard work and commitment as the leeway to success in life.
Both spoke on Sunday at Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, during the convocation of Babcock University in which 1, 616 persons passed out from the institution.
Twenty-one-old Inyang Ekaette of the Computer Science Department emerged the best-graduating student. She obtained 4.96 Cumulative Grade Point Average out of possible five points.
Ikpeazu, who lauded the commitment of the university to providing quality education, urged the graduands to endeavour to be worthy ambassadors of the ivory tower.
He said, “Nigeria is looking up to you all for solution to the numerous challenges facing the country. With the quality of education the university has given to you, the country and the world at large, look up to you to be change agents. Be diligent and committed to the things that you do.
“The university has groomed you all to shine and to contribute to the socio-economic liberation of the country and humanity. So endeavour to show the world that the university has given you the best of education.”
Aig-Imoukhuede, while urging the graduating students to make a difference in life, also advised them remain focused.
The former Access Bank Plc Managing Director, whose advice centred on “seizing the day” philosophy, also charged them to endeavour to be courageous in their pursuit of life journey.
He said, “With the preparation the university has given to you, all you need to do is to seize the day. There are entrepreneurial juices working in your veins, ensure that you explore them to the fullest. Have no fear to pursue your dreams. Endeavour to create things for yourselves.
“Like the late Muhammad Ali and Nelson Mandela, do not allow initial failures to draw you back. Persevere and put your best foot forward. Also, endeavour to leave your comfort zone.”
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ademola Tayo, promised that the university would continue to contribute to lifting humanity to loftier heights.
He said, “We shall continue to build productive and distinctive networks, bringing together key individuals and organisations, to tackle the complex issues we all face in education, health, economy and the challenges of an increasing population of those denied access to justice and basic social needs.”
