Umuahia — The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has said that Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah is afraid of facing him at the poll in 2019.
Hence, he said that, Ogah showed his "desperation to take power from me through the back door."
Ikpeazu, therefore, challenged those aspiring to govern the state to come out and test their popularity in the next general elections, instead of running from one court to another seeking to unseat him.
Ikpeazu stated this, Monday, while playing host to the state executive committee members of the PDP at the state and local government levels.
He said: "I must confess that even in this trying moment, the party's family in Abia is intact and I am glad to state that it is clear to every genuine PDP member that the seat of the governor of the state is under attack and it is being insulted. It is also clear that the intention of those who plan the coup is selfishness and not for the interest of the Abians.
"The consequences of their plans would have thrown the state into anarchy, but God took charge. I would continue to derive my strength from God almighty, who will grant me victory in the battles ahead. I know it is because of fear that they want to use the back door to get power."
Speaking earlier, the state's chairman of the PDP, Chief Johnson Onuigbo, told the governor that one of the people challenging his authority at the court was planning to set up a parallel executive council in the state in the event Ogah became governor.
