Zlatan racking up the records

Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to break records as on Sunday he became the oldest player to score 15 Premier League goals in a season, showing why he is still one of the best in front of goal.

Zlatan racking up the records

The charismatic striker heralded his arrival at Old Trafford in the summer, saying he would become 'the God of Manchester', although some doubted if the Swede would be able to cut it in his mid-30s and in a more physical league.

Not one to be phased, Ibrahimovic has continued his scoring form with United that he demonstrated during his time at clubs around Europe, starting with a bang as he became the first player to score in his first three Premier League appearances for United.

He has since notched 20 goals in all competitions, with 15 of these coming in England's top flight, making him the oldest player to do so in the Premier League at 35 years and 125 days old.

The record-breaking strike came against Leicester on Sunday as he swept home from a Marcus Rashford cross, and the milestones just kept coming as it also made him the first United player since Robin van Persie under Sir Alex Ferguson to reach the 20-goal mark.

"Normally when strikers score goals, we say '22 goals - 14 goals and eight penalties', or '21 goals - 14 goals and seven penalties'. With Zlatan, we need to remind ourselves it's 20 goals - 19 and one penalty," his manager Jose Mourinho told MUTV of Ibrahimovic's feat.

But the big Swede is not finished yet and with 14 Premier League games left to play, as well as fixtures in both domestic cups, there is every chance he can break even more records.

"I have a target in my head but I will not say it, and we are not there yet," Ibrahimovic said after Sunday's game at the King Power Stadium.

"It's something I do every year and it's nothing new. I keep producing. I had 27 goals last year. The statistics so far have the same reach like the other years."

Ibrahimovic may toot his own horn on a regular basis, but he has the stats to back it up.

  • 2011/12 Milan 28

  • 2012/13 PSG 30

He arrived at United off the back of his best goalscoring season, netting 38 goals in Ligue 1 as PSG cruised to yet another title with a 31-point gap over their nearest rivals Lyon and Monaco.

The striker also netted 30 goals in his first season at the Parc des Princes in the 2012/13 league campaign with decent returns on 26 and 19 goals in the following terms.

Indeed, only once in the last 12 years has Ibrahimovic failed to reach double figures during a league campaign - during his 2005/06 season at Juventus where he scored seven times - with his first 20-goal haul coming in 2008/09 season with Inter.

The striker has reached double figures for league goals in each of his last 11 seasons, a record which is matched in Europe's top five leagues by only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He has scored more than 20 goals in all competitions in 10 consecutive campaigns.

Can Ibrahimovic go on to break the 30-goal barrier once again and continue to break records in the Premier League? United team-mate Henrikh Mkhitaryan thinks so.

"I think no one is surprised because this is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. You have to expect this kind of performance," he told MUTV after Sunday's match.

"I'm sure that he's going to score more than 20 - he can maybe score 30 to 35 goals this season, if not more, because everyone knows that he's a big, big star. I'm just excited and glad that he keeps scoring a lot of goals."
