Mikel earns Hiddink’s plaudits
John Obi Mikel earned himself accolades from Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink after a splendid performance in their 3-0 win at Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The 28-year-old Nigerian put up a disciplined and sturdy defensive display that caught the eye of not just the Chelsea manager but also football enthusiasts.
The Dutchman described Mikel as “the ideal player” capable of giving stability to the Blues as he did in their Barclays Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.
“Mikel played very well. He is the ideal player to bring balance to the team. He knows the game very well and how to cope. To watch a player defend so elegantly is a beautiful thing,” said Hiddink of the Nigerian midfielder.
The Nigerian has now started in Chelsea’s last two league games at Manchester United and Palace since the departure of Jose Mourinho.
